Solitaire is probably one of the most well-known games in existence. A card game your senior may have taught you to keep you occupied when you were alone. It’s a game that is over two centuries old, but there are spin-offs of it that your mom can play while you’re busy finishing household chores for her.
This history game is also called American Patience. It’s probably the game of solitaire that your mom is most familiar with. Take a full deck of cards and deal them out into seven side-by-side piles. From left to right, you deal one card in all piles and then skip piles from the left as you go.Eventually, you’ll have one card in the first pile, two in the second, three in the third, etc. When you finish filling a pile, make sure the top card is face-up. Remaining cards go into a draw pile. The goal is to move cards from the piles onto piles that start with an “Ace” until they’re all in sequential order. To do this, you need to build on the face-up cards on the initial seven piles. Each time you move cards to a new pile, you flip the top face-down card over and see if it helps. When you’re stuck, you go to the next card in the draw pile.
Clock Solitaire is a game where a deck of cards is dealt into even piles to resemble a clock surrounding one more pile of cards in the center. Cards are flipped over one at a time and moved to their appropriate “time.”The game begins by flipping over the top card in the center pile, it’s moved to its appropriate spot. For example, if you draw a four, it’s moved to the four o’clock pile and you draw a card from that pile to keep going. When you find a king (13), it goes into the center. The goal is to reveal all of the other cards before finding the four kings.
Could Caregivers Help?
Many solitaire games are available online for free. That makes it easy to set your mom up to play solitaire without having to worry about arranging the cards or picking them up after.
If your senior is making it more challenging to do chores for them, it could be time to hire caregivers. They may want more of their time with you spent playing games or chatting. With caregivers helping out, you can take your senior for a walk, watch a movie with them, or sit and talk. They will enjoy spending time together, but caregivers ensure the daily tasks are completed as necessary.
